The RSGB are hosting three days of open ARDF competition in the spring of 2013. There will be Sprint, 2m and 80m Classic ARDF Courses


In addition the 9th British ARDF Championships will be contested.



The events will be located in Surrey, close to London Heathrow and London Gatwick Airports.


We are taking expressions of interest and even entries. Please register your interest now by emailing the organiser on...

To enter please send:

Given Name, Family Name, Callsign, Club/Association, Country, SI Chip Number or "hire" If you wish to borrow a chip for the event, class entered and days entered.

If you wish to borrow receivers - either 2m or 80m - please let us know now - we have a limited number of each. Entry fees will be collected on the morning of the competition.

The Competitions


Day 1 - Friday (evening) 17th May - Sprint Style ARDF on the 80m band

This will be at Leith Hill.  This area has been used for international standard orienteering competitions and is very pretty with lots of opportunity for challenging navigation puzzles.

Note: Start times will be allocated on the evening of the race.

If you use the A3 or A25 past Guildford on a late Friday afternoon, it is ALWAYS slow, you should
allow 20 min extra journey time.


Day 2 - Saturday 18th May - Classic Style ARDF on the 2m  band

The Location

The competition areas are all within 30km of Guildford, Surrey (http://goo.gl/maps/2YQJI)



Travel
By road Guildford is 40 minutes from Heathrow Airport (LHR) and 40 minutes from Gatwick Airport (LGW)

It may possible to get to the venues by public transport - a bit of walking or cycling will be necessary however. Use the UK Transport Planner to check out possibilities.

As is standard practice in the UK competitors will be responsible for their own transport

Given prior notice we may be able to organise transport to and from the competition forests to local hotels or rail/bus stations. This is not guaranteed. Please contact the organiser to discuss well in advance of the event.

Accommodation

As is standard GB practice competitors will be responsible for their own accomodation arrangements.

There are plenty of hotels! Chains such as PREMIER INN, TRAVELODGE offer good deals if you book early.

Guildford or Dorking are the best places to stay if you are an overseas visitor

You will also find caravan and camping sites close by.

"In anticipation of the British Championships being held in Surrey, others might like to know that I have booked myself accommodation in a B&B (Bed and Breakfast).  If anybody else is interested, you can see details at http://www.bulmerfarm.co.uk/ and the lady says that she has got other rooms available for the weekend.

Anybody preferring a Travelodge hotel might find the one at Dorking as convenient as any.

Entry Fees


The entry fees will be

Day 1 - £5
Day 2 - £10
Day 3 - £10


Entry fees will be payable, in Cash (GBP) and in full upon arrival at Day 1 registration.

There will be a reduced price for Junior competitors - to be confirmed.

Weather
(Information For Overseas Competitors)

'Hasta el cuarenta de mayo no te quites el sayo'*


Surrey is a hilly county - the competition area is at 250m above sea level.  However...

The weather in May can vary between 25 degrees, dead calm and sun (hooray!) and 6 degrees, rain, sleet, hail and gale force winds (boo!).

Normally it is warm and sunny but please come prepared! If the weather is really bad the organisers may require competitors to carry a waterproof raincoat (aka cagoule)

Celebration Meal

Please note will be a meal not a hamfest - no need to dress up!

"Provisionally booked for 25 people -  7pm at The Royal Oak, Holmbury St. Mary.

They can put us in an upstairs room slightly separated from the main pub. We have used
this a couple of times in the past for family get-togethers.
For those who have the stamina, there is a Jazz evening later in the pub at 9pm!
I will forward a menu when I get it shortly."

In the case of cancellation or curtailment of the competition the organisers accept no liability for competitors personal committed or incurred costs. We reserve the right to retain all or part of any entry fee or other monies paid to cover organisers costs, in the case where these costs cannot be recovered.
